Rust remover Composition
Rust removers may contain one or more of the following active ingredients:
- Phosphoric Acid (H₃PO₄) – Converts rust into a black, protective coating (iron phosphate) that prevents further corrosion.
- Oxalic Acid (H₂C₂O₄) – A strong acid that dissolves rust stains and deposits.
- Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) – Aggressive rust remover but may damage certain metals if not used carefully.
- Chelating Agents (e.g., EDTA, Citric Acid) – Bind to iron oxide and lift rust without harming metal surfaces.
- Surfactants & Inhibitors – Enhance penetration and prevent metal degradation after rust removal
